West Coast Park - A place for Everyone, from Pre-Schoolers, to Primary School Kids, to Teens, to the Not so Young
The year end school holidays are here again! It is time to take our kids to the great outdoors for them to unwind after a year of studying, tests, exams and etc. It’s time for them to let their hair down and enjoy some fresh air, enjoy themselves.
My family, together with another friend’s family did just that, on Deepavali this year, to be exact. We organised a picnic and a day of fun at the West Coast Park.
My family was introduced to West Coast Park at an event about 5 years ago and since then, my boys and I have fallen in love with that place and I have been taking them there once in a while after exams for them to enjoy some great outdoor moments. This year, I decided to invite my friend’s family along.
Quote from National Parks Board’s website …..
With the theme "Play Centre in the West", the western portion of West Coast Park has been transformed into a haven for park visitors who enjoy challenging and adventurous activities. Standing at the centre core of Area 3 is the Adventure Play Area that caters to people of different age groups, from toddlers to young adults. This is the heart and most active zone of West Coast Park.
Yes, it’s Area 3 at West Coast Park that I am talking about. For those of you who drive, it’s Car Park 3, where MacDonald’s is, but for those of you who do not drive like my family, West Coast Park is easily accessible by public transport, only takes a bit of effort to get there. In fact, there are a few ways to get there via public transport.
Getting there by public transport
- By SMRT 176. Board SMRT 176 along Telok Blangah or Pasir Panjang Road. Alight at the bus-stop outside West Coast MacDonald’s.
- By SBS 175. Board from Clementi Interchange. Alight along West Coast Highway, after Kent Ridge Secondary School, after the bus turns left from West Coast Link. Cross the Highway and West Coast Park is just opposite.
- By SBS 30 from Bedok or anywhere along the route of Service 30. Alight at West Bay Resort Condo. Walk with the traffic, turn left into West Coast Link, cross West Coast Highway at the traffic lights and you are there.
What can you do there?
- Kite Flying – there is a big open space overlooking the sea, great place to fly a kite.
- Adventure Play Area – there are enough stations to keep the young and not so young occupied. See photos.
- Pedal Go Kart – understand that there is a Pedal Go Kart rental kiosk at Car Park 2, though we have not tried the Pedal Go-Kart. Heard from the two pretty girls who were my models in my photos (not related to us, but obliged when I asked if I could take their pictures) that the rental of the Pedal Go Kart is at $10 per half an hour. Read this link for more details.
- Camping – yes , camping is allowed, though you need a camping permit. Read my blog for more info/tips on camping.
- Swimming – I won’t encourage that and I doubt it’s allowed though I spotted a man swimming in the rather dirty water! Yucks!
- BBQ is only allowed at designated areas, but definitely not allowed at Area 3 where we were.
What’s available at the Park?
- There is a 24-hour MacDonald’s there to satisfy hunger pangs. It is also a drive-thru Branch.
- Plenty of benches though shelters are quite limited.
- Toilet is nearby, reasonably clean and well-maintained, somewhere behind MacDonald’s.
I have attached some photos for you to enjoy. Please note that all models in the photos, yes dog included, are not related to my family or my friend’s family in any way. Enjoy the photos …

West Coast Park is fun!
Hi Maid, yes West Coast Park is fun. We enjoy going there for walks, pedal karting and also for the playground... but we do prefer East Coast when it comes to In-line skating because the paths are less slopy. West Coast park has lots of slope so it will be more challenging for in-line skaters.
Just wondering, so did you bring your thermal pot along and filled it with your delicious home-cooked food?
Hi Happy Mama I know what
Hi Happy Mama
I know what you mean. I prefer West Coast Park for certain activities and East Coast Park for others. Have not tried the in-line skating though. Senior citizens like me better stay away from stuff for the young before I break a few old bones!
No, the picnic at West Coast was a 'dry' picnic, with buns and cakes etc, not 'wet' as in curry/bee hoon kind of picnic if you know what I mean.
We didn't want to bother so much with paper plates/cutlery and stuff like that.

Great sharing!
Hi 25hourmaid,
Looking at the photographs really brings back memories..not of my kids but of me bringing my nieces and nephews when they were younger to West Coast Park. We really like the park, its quieter than East Coast but so many fun stuff for the kids to do. We always rush for the 'flying trapeze' looking thing. Forgot what it was called, the kids have to swing from one end to another on a swing.
Anyway thanks for sharing, I might bring my own kids to the park this holiday after looking at your lovely pictures:)
Hi jasmineong Thanks for
Hi jasmineong
Thanks for dropping by. I personally prefer West Coast Park to East Coast Park too, but again it depends on what sort of activites that we want to do at the Park. For cycling, BBQ and camping, I still prefer to go to East Coast Park despite the crowd, but like you said, West Coast Park is good because of the play stations there for the kids.
I know the 'flying trapeze' that you are talking abuot. That one is a hot item among most kids. They usually have to take turns playing with other kids.

Nice Photos
hi maid
it's been a longgggg time since my last visit with my gal to this west coast park.
from yr photos, it seemed that there're new play euipment being added. must find one day to bring her there again, surely she'll like it but think of the sun, i am a bit reluntant...haha
Hi Augmum Not sure if they
Hi Augmum
Not sure if they added any new equipment, but the place looks the same from my last visit, maybe about a year ago?
No problem about the sun lah! Just splash some sun block, put on a hat/cap and have fun! Sometimes it is good for kids to be out in the sun once in a while. I for one, cannot tahan fair fair teens, boys especially!
maid to 3 men and a dog ...
yes maid....no fair fair
yes maid....no fair fair boys, but mine is a gal leh......(ok...just kidding, vit D is good for us too)some play equipment so look new to me....my last visit was some 6-7 years ago
Hi Augmum 6 to 7 years
Hi Augmum
6 to 7 years ago? That would make your girl about 6 or 7 then! If that's the case, then you definitely need to bring her back there again! I am sure she will enjoy herself.
When my elder boy was in Sec 1, I brought him and some of his classmates there to do a project and the teens had so much fun that they refused to go home after finishing with their project, in the end, we stayed there till evening!
Haha, I know you have a girl lah!
It is perfectly okay for girls to be fair fair, but definitely not for boys! My boys are so tanned that they are often mistaken for Malays!
If you don't look at their surname, you would agree that they are "Malay" boys too!
maid to 3 men and a dog ...
Hi maid
yes, it has been so many yrs ago, surprising that she still could remember some of the play equipment when i showed her those photos u had taken.
with a mummy who's so active and fun-loving in the sun, not surprise if yr boys look like malays
( one moment kite-flying and the next park's picnic) and u're really a good party organiser, look at the food u had prepared....makes me salivate by just seeing
(also recalling those food u had prepared for the marina kite flying)

Hi Augmum
Yes, my boys have led very active lives since they were young and that's why I am very experienced in planning such outdoor activities. Used to do more when they were younger, but we have cut down on a lot of such activites since both entered Secondary School and are so busy with their school work and such.
Half of the food pictures that you saw were prepared by me, the kueh kueh stuff were brought by my friend.

7 families with almost 35
7 families with almost 35 people?? i dont think it is very feasible. It will be like planning for an invasion with more than half the number being children under 12!
I really don't think there
I really don't think that is a big issue if the event is properly planned. I have planned events involving more than 7 families, totally more than 50 people, yes, children included, just takes a bit more effort.

Thank you for sharing,
Thank you for sharing, maid. Too bad I can't view the pics at work. Sure brings back memories as DH and I used to partor @ the West Coast Park McD's
Now we bring DD to Sembawang Beach as we stay in the North.
Sembawang Park (三巴旺公园) is a 15 hectare park situated in Sembawang, in the north e facing the Straits of Johor overlooking Malaysia. It is located at the end of Sembawang Road, where the former Sembawang Road End Bus Terminal was.
One of our favorite restaurants is there. The Beaulieu House, by the seaside and a great venue for weddings and parties. Built in 1910s, as a seaside house for a David family. When the Sembawang naval base construction began in 1923, the British took over the house. It served as a residence for the senior engineers during construction, and during operation of the Naval Base, the senior officers resided at the Beaulieu House. Admiral Layton, the most senior Naval Officer in Singapore lived in this house for the periods of two years from 1940-42. He also hosted tennis parties near the house. Post war, it served as residence of Senior Fleet Officers like the Chief of Staff, who return the salute at the Sembawang Jetty right in front of the house. Now, the house is gazetted as a Conservation Area by the URA.
Getting there: The closest MRT station is Sembawang. The park is accessible via SMRT bus service 882 which loops at former Sembawang Road End Terminal.
Hi durizAh Sembanwang

I stayed near WestCoast
I stayed near WestCoast Park and I jog there almost 4 times week. It is indeed a great place to spend weekend there. Can be rather crowded on the weekend noon onwards.
You can see loads of kite flyers too.

It's been a while since we went to West Coast Park, looks like its time to plan an adventure there again! The go kart link is really useful saw people go kart pedaling the last time but could not find the place.... now we know exactly where to look for.

Yes, it's been a while since we last stepped foot there too. Not much has changed though, the place is still as good as before.
Was the pedal go kart there all along? Thought was something new, have never seen it before till this trip.
