The birthday cake is always the center of attraction in a birthday party. This cake sits in a place of honor, with beautiful candles glowing on top it, as we sing the “Happy Birthday” song. After the birthday song and all the oooh-and-aaah are over, it’s time to cut and taste how delicious the cake is.

Besides the taste, we also need to consider the shape, color, size and design of the birthday cake. If the birthday cake has a theme or cartoon characters, the children will definitely love it. It is better to decorate the birthday cake using the favorite color of the birthday boy or girl.

My DD1 had this idea of doing a mini fun fair/carnival for her birthday celebration last year but as her birthday fell within the exam period, she had to postpone materialising her idea for a month till the June school holidays when her cousins came over to our house for some play time. I thought I’ll share it with everyone here so instead of spending a bomb on birthday celebrations, we can save money and at the same time, recycle materials and cultivate creativity in our children. Here goes what she did:

The question of  where to hold the party comes about 1 month before my nephew’s 2 year old birthday.

My nephew is fortunate to have both stay-home grandmas and a maid looking after him.  When it comes to birthdays, there is no option of saying “Let’s celebrate in school” and doing away with the issue of venue, decoration and guest list like I did.

They feel their apartment is too small.  You invite 5 kids there is already 15- 20 people in the house since parents and maids are definitely coming along too.  Any way, cleaning up the house after a party is not exactly a smart way of spending limited bonding time with the kids.  So what are the options when it comes to finding a place to party for a few hours?
